TRAVEL TO BLOOMINGTON

Information on rideshares and shuttles

From Indianapolis International Airport

Rideshare and Carpool

If you have flights that fall outside of the shuttle's parameters, if you do not wish to wait at the airport, or if you wish to have a car while in the area, you might wish to use a rideshare service (Lyft or Uber) or to rent a vehicle. To aid those seeking these options, we have created an optional Google Doc (link here) to facilitate connections among conference-goers. Please add your information to this document if either

  1. You are driving to or from the airport and are willing to offer a ride to one or more others, or

  2. You are looking to share a ride to or from the airport.

More information on GO Express:

GO Express Travel offers regular bus service between the Indianapolis Airport (IND) and various locations in Bloomington, including the conference location – the Indiana Memorial Union (IMU). The cost is $29 each way. We strongly recommend making a reservation in advance if your flight times are compatible with the shuttle's schedule.

Overview of GO Express Bloomington Shuttle schedule:

  • Wednesday, IND airport to IMU

    • Departs IND airport every *two* hours, starting at 8:40am through 10:40pm, arriving at the IMU 85 minutes later.

  • Thursday, IND airport to IMU

    • Departs IND airport every hour, starting at 7:40am through 10:40pm, arriving at the IMU 85 minutes later.

  • Saturday, IMU to IND airport

    • Departs IMU every *two* hours on the hour, from 7:00am to 9:00pm, arriving at IND airport 90 minutes later.

  • Sunday, IMU to IND airport

    • Departs IMU every hour on the hour, from 6:00am to 9:00pm, arriving at IND airport 90 minutes later.

  • Note: The shuttle also stops at other hotels in Bloomington, including The Graduate Hotel. Unfortunately, the shuttle does not stop at the Grant Street Inn, but it is a short walk from there either to the IMU or to The Graduate Hotel. Please consult the Bloomington Shuttle website for detailed information on other shuttle stop locations and times.

If you try to reserve a seat and are told the bus is full, please contact the conference organizers at navsa23@indiana.edu. We will then contact GO Express and ask them to schedule additional buses. You can find detailed information about the Bloomington shuttle and a link to book online above.

Finally, a rule of thumb: as a mid-sized airport serving the region, the Indianapolis International Airport is usually organized and efficient.  However, given its distance from Bloomington, it is always wise to leave at least two and a half hours between departure from Bloomington and flight departure time.
